Established on the basis of partial assets of former State Power Corporation of China, China Guodian Corporation is one of the five largest nationwide power generation groups approved by the State Council of China in the power industry restructuring. It is a pilot state holding enterprise approved by the State council to carry out the state-authorized investment with the registered capital of 12 billion RMB Yuan (equivalent to 1.5 billion US Dollar).

China Guodian Corporation engages in the development, investment, construction, operation and management of generation, and the production and sales of electricity (and heat). It covers the investment, construction, operation and management in the business relevant to its core business, such as coal, power generation equipment, new energy, transportation, high-tech, environment protection, technological services and information consultancy. It is ratified to finance and invest both home and abroad in the light of the relevant stipulations, and to carry out international trade, economic cooperation, international project contracting and international laboring and other businesses which are ratified and approved by the relevant authorities of the state.

China Guodian Corporation established 13 regional branches companies, and over one hundred wholly-owned enterprises, business units of internal accounting and holding companies, including two listed companies, namely, the GD Power Development Co., Ltd and Guodian Changyuan Power Development Co., Ltd. The power sources cover 29 provinces (autonomous regions and municipalities), with a personnel of over 8,0000. By the end of June,2008, the total controllable installed capacity of Guodian reached 61.767 MW, including 55.6755MW thermal, 4.3604 MW hydro, and 1.7041 MW wind power, with the rate of 90.14%, 7.06% and 2.76% respectively.
